POA Patient Profile, SGM Chris Self, January 2012
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
Sergeant Major Chris Self is the definition of a hero. While on active duty with the U.S. Army in December 2005, Chris sustained gunshot wounds to both legs during a combat operation in Iraq. One of the bullets severed the sciatic nerve in his right leg, leaving it paralyzed. Click on the following link to learn how he refused to let his injuries and subsequent amputation of his leg below the knee put an end to his active life. Chris Self patient profile

Monday, January 23rd, 2012Before Maria, a knee disarticulate (through the knee) amputee left Orlando to return to her home in Colombia. She wanted to make sure her shoes/boots would work with her new prosthetic leg, and as you will see, they did!

Congratulations to Sgt. Josh Olson!, 1/2012
Sunday, January 22nd, 2012Congratulations to Sergeant First Class Josh Olson for earning a nomination to the 2012 Paralympic Team!
While serving in Iraq in 2003, Josh was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade which resulted in the loss of his right leg from the hip down. POA’s original vacuum hip system was actually designed by Stan Patterson for Josh when he was sent to us by Walter Reed Hospital for rehabilitation and development of a prosthesis that would allow Josh to return to active duty in the Army’s marksmanship unit. It was coined the “Olson Design” because of Josh’s need. He was able to help future generations of amputees by assisting in the development of the Olson Design vacuum socket which allows hip disarticulation amputees to have a socket that has an intimate and secure fit, is light and comfortable, and cosmetic.

Brett’s New Leg!, January 2012
Thursday, January 19th, 2012Last week Brett was fit with a new prosthesis. During the process he spent some time with POA patient Chris Self, a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army Special Forces. Before Chris left, he gave Brett some Special Forces patches which Brett excitedly asked us to laminate onto his new prosthetic socket. It looks awesome and he is so proud to wear it! Thank you, SM Chris Self! Click here to read more about Brett

Welcome, Caleb!
Monday, January 16th, 2012Caleb Rivera, age 21, lost his leg above the knee to osteosarcoma (bone cancer) 15 years ago. He never felt comfortable in the prosthetic limbs he was fit with over the years, and they were not durable enough for his active life. Frustrated, Caleb traded his prosthesis for crutches, and for four years that’s how he walked…..until a few weeks ago. A chance meeting between Caleb’s pastor and a POA employee led to this exciting day - when Caleb reclaimed his independence! Click here to view video of Caleb’s first day walking with his prosthetic leg
We fit Caleb with our patented NPS (vacuum assisted) double wall socket. Read more about it in the Products section of our website.
Here’s a photo of Caleb’s finished socket….a walking testimony of faith! Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
