POA’s first “Cartwheel Contest” - Ronnie vs. Ellie!!!

POA prosthetic resident and AK amputee Ronnie Dickson challenged Ellie to a cartwheel contest during her recent visit to our office. Can you guess who the winner was? Let’s just say this: Ronnie may be a rock climber, but Ellie ROCKS!!!!

Ronnie Dickson’s Red River Canyon Climbing Trip, 12/2011
Tuesday, December 27th, 2011Here’s a few photos from POA’s Ronnie “Spider Man” Dickson during a recent climbing trip to Red River Gorge, a canyon system on the Red River in east-central Kentucky. This canyon system features an abundance of sandstone cliffs, rock shelters, waterfalls and natural bridges, making it one of the world’s most popular and challenging climbing destinations. Ronnie, an above-knee amputee, makes it look easy!

POA’s Bree McMahon Gives Water Skiing a Try!, 11/26/2011
Thursday, December 1st, 2011The McMahon family has much to be thankful for this holiday season. Last weekend they celebrated yet another “first” for Bree since the 2009 accident that resulted in the amputation of one leg above the knee and almost took the other — she waterskied with a special prosthetic leg adapted for use in the water! Paralympic and WSF Para-Snowboard World Cup Champion Evan Strong demonstrates his vacuum prosthetic leg’s holding power

POA recently fit Paralympic and WSF Para-Snowboard World Cup Champion Evan Strong with a custom NPS vacuum socket.
Before he left, we gave the prosthesis one final check. Stan and Mike were enlisted to lift him upside-down while clipped into his boots and snowboard - our version of an “inverted aerial.” A perfect example of the power of elevated vacuum!
Evan was very pleased with the outcome and looks forward to trying it out on the slopes.
